A New Era Begins
After the disappointment of failing to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), Ghanaian football is undergoing a major transformation. The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has disbanded the previous Black Stars Management Committee and appointed a new six-member team determined to restore the nation’s footballing pride.
Led by Dr. Randy Abbey, the committee brings together experienced football minds, including former Black Stars captain Stephen Appiah, who has been named Vice Chairman and Player Relations Officer. The legendary midfielder, who played a pivotal role in Ghana’s historic 2006 World Cup qualification, is expected to inspire the next generation of stars.
Speaking on Sporty FM, GFA spokesperson Henry Asante Twum revealed the committee’s strong stance on demanding better performances.
> “They have had their first meeting, and I know that a lot of things will change going forward. They are committed to pushing for results, and they have made that very clear,” he stated.
The committee also includes Samuel Aboabire, chairman of the Greater Accra Regional Football Association, and Moses Armah, president of Medeama SC, both overseeing matchday operations and partnerships. Richard Nsenkyire, president of FC Samartex 1996, will handle special duties.
With a fresh team in place, the Black Stars are set to embark on a new journey—one driven by accountability, ambition, and the pursuit of excellence.

Former GHALCA Chief Blames Player Standards for Struggles in Youth and CHAN Competitions
Former Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) chairman, Alhaji Ali Raji, has expressed deep concern over the declining quality of home-based players, attributing it to Ghana’s struggles in youth competitions and the African Nations Championship (CHAN).
Ghana has failed to qualify for the U-17 World Cup since 2017 and recently missed out on the U-20 AFCON, despite winning the tournament in 2021. The Black Galaxies, composed entirely of local players, also suffered elimination in the CHAN playoffs against Nigeria.
Speaking to Asempa FM, Raji was blunt in his assessment: “I am being honest with you, the quality is very low. From the U-17, U-20, U-23, and CHAN teams, the standard is not there.”
He further criticized local coaches for failing to develop talent, adding, “The coaches have not shown any ability to transform low-quality players into top players. Hearts of Oak’s current squad would struggle to make it into Auroras, and Asante Kotoko’s present players would not fit into Anokye Stars.”
His comments highlight growing concerns about the development of Ghanaian football at the grassroots level and the need for urgent reforms.

GFA President Rallies Support as Ghana Resets for World Cup Qualifiers
Following Ghana’s failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku has urged the nation to unite behind the Black Stars as they embark on a new chapter.
A major shake-up in the team’s management and technical setup has been announced, with Winfried Anton Schäfer appointed as Technical Advisor and Director of Football. He will be joined by Desmond Ofei, Kris Perquy, and Gregory De Grauwe to reinforce the squad’s tactical and psychological approach. While John Paintsil and Fatau Dauda retain their positions, assistant coach Joseph Lauman has been dismissed as part of the restructuring.
Okraku emphasized the need for national solidarity, reminding Ghanaians of past challenges the team has overcome. “With the announcement of both the management committee of the Black Stars and a revamped technical team, it’s now our time to be truly Ghanaian and get behind our team once again,” he stated.
Looking ahead, he called on fans to rally behind the squad as they shift focus to the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. “Our players need you!! Our players need us… It is time!!!!” he urged.
