Dr. Randy Abbey Slams Youth and Sports Ministry Over Neglect of Ho Sports Complex

Dr. Randy Abbey, a member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Executive Council, has strongly criticized the Ministry of Youth and Sports for the deteriorating condition of the Ho Sports Complex.

Despite a substantial $4 million investment in its construction, the facility, which hosted the 2023 Independence Day celebrations, has fallen into disrepair. Dr. Abbey, also known for his role as host of Good Morning Ghana on Metro TV, expressed outrage over the neglect and questioned the accountability surrounding the facility’s maintenance.

“The Ho Sports Complex, which was used for Independence Day last year, has now deteriorated despite being funded by taxpayers’ money. The decision to build the facility there was based on a needs assessment, but the current state raises serious concerns,” Dr. Abbey said.

He criticized the Ministry of Youth and Sports and other responsible agencies for allowing the facility to fall into disrepair, and questioned why there has been no accountability for the maintenance of the stadium.

A video shared by sports journalist Saddick Adams on X reveals the facility’s poor condition, including an overrun pitch, broken or removed seats, and visible damage to the roofing and structure.

Dr. Abbey’s remarks reflect growing concerns about the government’s commitment to maintaining sports infrastructure and ensuring the effective use of public funds.

With Medeama SC’s season about to kick off on September 6, 2024, Abdulai’s future remains a subject of significant interest, and he is expected to make a move before the start of the new season.

GFA Imposes One-Year Ban on Five Real Tamale United Officials

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) Disciplinary Committee has handed a one-year ban to five officials of Real Tamale United (RTU) for their involvement in a serious breach of regulations during Matchday 28 against Dreams FC.

The banned officials are Iddi Manzah Alhassan, Abdul-Samed Iddrisu, Abdul-Gafaru Salifu, Tanko Jentumah, and Sylvester Yaw Apanka. The sanctions follow RTU’s use of unregistered players to impersonate officially registered players, which misled the match officials and compromised the integrity of the game.

The GFA’s decision highlights its commitment to maintaining high standards and accountability in football. The bans, effective immediately, underscore the importance of ethical conduct within the sport.

RTU’s use of unregistered players, prompted by the refusal of registered players to travel, resulted in a heavy 8-1 loss to Dreams FC in Dawu. Despite the club’s admission of guilt and plea for leniency, the severity of the breach led to strict penalties from the GFA Disciplinary Committee.

GFA Fines Real Tamale United GHC100,000 for Using Unregistered Players

The Disciplinary Committee of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has fined Real Tamale United (RTU) GHc100,000 for actions that compromised the integrity of the game.

The fine is a result of RTU’s violation of Section 34(6)(d) of the GFA Premier League Regulations, which occurred during their matchday 28 game against Dreams FC at the Theatre of Dreams.

RTU FC was found guilty of using unregistered players to impersonate officially registered players, an act deemed to have undermined the fairness of the game. The club admitted to the charges, citing that the use of unregistered players was due to the registered players’ refusal to travel.

Despite the club’s explanation, the GFA Disciplinary Committee imposed the fine to maintain league standards. RTU’s misconduct contributed to their relegation from the Premier League, and they will compete in the Division One League for the upcoming season.
