Controversy Mars National Super Middleweight Title Clash Between Akushey (Baubali) and Ahorgah (Soldier Boxer)

Controversy Mars National Super Middleweight Title Clash Between Akushey (Baubali) and Ahorgah (Soldier Boxer)

Boxing fans left the Bukom Boxing Arena on the night of Saturday, June 29th, with immense disappointment after the main bout between Ernest Akushey, known as Baubali, and Elvis Ahorgah, aka Soldier Boxer, ended scandalously. The referee, Roger Barnor, discovered a cut in Baubali’s gloves and requested a replacement. However, Soldier Boxer’s corner did not agree and threw in the towel, causing near mayhem for nearly 20 minutes. Security managed to control the situation, but fans lost patience and left after the referee stepped down from the ring.

The debut Ayitey Powers Promotions event, titled ‘Power of the Fists,’ featured 31-year-old Ernest Akushey (6-0-0) from Chorkor, who trains at the Wadada Gym in James Town, against 23-year-old Elvis Ahorgah (11-2-0), who trains under Coach Lartekwei Lartey at the Fit Square Gym in Kokomlemle, for the National Super Middleweight Title Belt. By round six, Ahorgah seemed to be leading with accurate punches and well-timed jabs, while Akushey, weighing in at 166.6 lbs, disappointed his supporters with a lackluster performance.

The bout was a sell-out, with fans eagerly debating and betting on the winner. The media workouts and promotions were excellent, attracting notable stars like Prof Azumah Nelson, Asamoah Gyan, Samuel Inkoom, Kakybos, and Ayitey Powers. However, the controversial end left the fans who packed the arena disappointed as they walked away from the show.

Boxing social media platforms have since been flooded with opinions, contentious verdicts, and personal results. Reports indicate that the GBA is working to resolve the issue by providing an official result.

Elsewhere on the card, popular boxer Freezy Mcbones, who made headlines in the UK, overwhelmed Ibrahim Labaran in a thrilling Middleweight encounter. In a Super Flyweight contest, Isaac Aryeetey lost to Michael Abban, while in a Bantamweight contest, Jerry Klutei Robertson triumphed over Godwin Tetteh. Wasiru Mohammed, fighting as a Lightweight, defeated Michael Akramah Tetteh. Eric Korley and Adam Abdeen Salmon also featured on the bill. Earlier in the evening, Agadowaakye and the Militant Dance Family wowed the crowd with a top-notch dance performance.
