President of the Ghana Olympic Committee, Ben Nunoo Mensah, has confirmed that Ghana’s Amateur Boxing Team, the Black Bombers, are on track to depart for Thailand on May 20 to participate in qualifiers for the 2024 Olympic Games.
In an exclusive interview with Citi Sports, Nunoo Mensah addressed recent controversies surrounding the team’s preparations for the event in France. He assured that the Ghanaian contingent is awaiting their visas and is prepared to embark on the journey to Thailand to compete for qualification to the Paris Olympics.
The Black Bombers’ participation in the qualifiers holds significant importance for Ghana, following the bronze medal victory by Samuel Takyi in the Men’s Featherweight Division at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.

Ayitey Bulley, Chairman of the Accra Basketball League (ABL), has expressed admiration for individuals who are actively involved in developing and promoting basketball within the league and across Ghana.

The Local Organizing Committee (LOC) for the Confederation of Africa Athletics (CAA) Region II Senior Championship has unveiled the official logo for the upcoming event, which will serve as a qualifier for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
From June 3-6, 2024, Accra will host over 400 athletes and officials at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium for an array of thrilling track and field events.
In a statement signed by Chairman Dr. Kwame Baah Nuako, the LOC explained that the logo represents the unity, athleticism, and excellence that define the CAA Region II Senior Championship. It embodies Ghana’s vibrant culture and rich heritage while highlighting the global significance of the event as an Olympic qualifier.
The unveiling of the logo marks a significant milestone in the preparation for this world-class sporting event. As Ghana gears up to welcome athletes and spectators from across the region, the LOC is dedicated to ensuring a memorable and successful championship.
The statement further noted that the official logo captures the essence of the championship and serves as a symbol of inspiration and motivation for athletes and fans alike. It will be prominently featured in promotional materials, merchandise, and event branding leading up to and during the championship.

Professional golfers across Ghana are preparing for the upcoming PGA Masters, the second major event in PGA Ghana’s “Road to Damang” series. Following the successful Golden Classic qualifiers at Tema’s Centre of the World Golf Course, the PGA Masters is set to take place from June 6-8, 2024, at the Damang Golf Club in the Western Region.
This tournament is critical in selecting the 22 players who will represent Ghana at the 2024 PGA Open. With the Asantehene Open also scheduled for June, where a top-10 ranking on the PGA Ghana order of merit grants exemption from pre-qualifying, the PGA Masters is crucial for players both within and outside the top 10.
Top Ghanaian golfers, including Vincent Torgah, Kojo Barni, Augustine Manasseh, Maxwell Owusu Bonsu, Emos Korblah, and Brave Mensah, are expected to compete. The emergence of young talent in the professional ranks adds to the excitement, potentially leading to surprises during the three-day event.
Alhaji Ahmed Padori, Director of Operations for PGA Ghana, expressed his anticipation for a challenging and competitive tournament. Speaking from the UK at the Panshanger Golf Complex after a session with the Akwaaba Society, he noted, “News from Ghana suggests golfers are intensifying their training for the competition. I hope the level continues to improve, as we’ve seen in past events.”

Former national cruiserweight champion Jacob Dickson has issued a challenge to Haruna Mohammed, the current champion recognized by the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA), for a showdown to determine the best in the division.
In an exclusive interview, Dickson revealed that he was unaware the GBA had stripped him of his title, which he still keeps at home. He expressed confusion over the arrangement that allowed Haruna Mohammed of Wisdom Gym to claim the championship after only three fights, while Dickson had to fight over eight bouts to become a national champion.
“I accept being a former champion, but I want to fight Haruna to show all of Ghana who is the current best between us,” Dickson stated. “I know I will beat him easily, and that’s why he is avoiding me. We’ve been arguing on social media, but I want to settle it in the ring because I am confident I am the number one in Ghana.”
Haruna Mohammed holds a record of 4-1-0, having recently defeated veteran George Amuzu, while Jacob Dickson boasts a record of 11-1-0 according to Boxrec.
Coach Carl Lokko, who trains Dickson at the Bronx Gym, mentioned that they are aiming for bigger challenges, but Dickson wants to prove himself locally. Lokko urged the GBA to provide a fair opportunity for the fight without favoring any boxer.
