The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has dismissed George Akwasi Afriyie’s appeal challenging the outcome of the 2023 GFA Presidential Elections, upholding the decision made by the GFA Appeals Committee.
In its ruling delivered on Monday, May 6, 2024, CAS supported the GFA’s decision and ordered George Akwasi Afriyie to pay CHF1,000.00 to the Ghana Football Association as a contribution towards legal fees. Additionally, Afriyie will bear the costs of arbitration separately.
Afriyie had sought nullification of any GFA presidential election conducted pending the resolution of the case and demanded fresh elections. However, CAS concluded that Afriyie’s nomination lacked the required support from five GFA members, a stipulation outlined in Article 30(3) of the GFA Statutes.
The GFA argued that Afriyie’s endorsement by one member was invalid due to discrepancies in authorized signatories. CAS determined that Afriyie’s appeal lacked legal merit and affirmed the GFA’s decision.
CAS’s ruling marks the conclusion of George Akwasi Afriyie’s challenge to his disqualification from the 2023 GFA Presidential Elections.

In a thrilling encounter at the Madina Astro Turf, Police Ladies emerged victorious with a 3-1 win over Supreme Ladies, booking their spot in the Women’s FA Cup final.
Police Ladies took control early on with three first-half goals from Juanita Aguadze and Mary Berko, while Ruth Owusua managed to pull one back for Supreme Ladies in the second half. The Service Ladies made a blistering start, as Aguadze netted two quickfire goals in the 2nd and 4th minutes, giving Police Ladies a commanding lead.
Berko added her name to the scoresheet in the 22nd minute, extending Police Ladies’ lead to 3-0, before Owusua scored for Supreme Ladies in the 86th minute.
Police Ladies have demonstrated dominance throughout the 2023/24 Women’s FA Cup, securing victories against notable opponents such as Ampem Darkoa Ladies, Hasaacas Ladies, Agave Glad Ladies, and Immigration Ladies.
Having previously claimed the FA Cup title in 2016, Police Ladies are now set to face Army Ladies in the final of the 2023/24 Women’s FA Cup.

Prosper Narteh Ogum, the head coach of Asante Kotoko, emphasized the joy that winning brings to the club’s fans, technical team, and players.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) extends its deepest condolences to the wife of Ricky Roy, the late fitness trainer of the Black Stars, who passed away unexpectedly after a brief illness.
A GFA delegation, led by Director of Marketing Jamil Maraby, visited the grieving widow to offer solace and support during this challenging period.
Accompanying the delegation were notable figures from the Black Stars team, including team manager Ameenu Shardow, goalkeeper’s trainer Fatau Dauda, Communications Director Henry Asante Twum, and Physiotherapist Samuel Kwame Ankomah.
Ricky Roy’s sudden departure has left a void in the football community, with his invaluable contributions to the Black Stars and his unwavering commitment to fitness training fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of working alongside him.
During the visit, the delegation conveyed their sympathies to the widow and provided words of comfort to aid her during this time of mourning. The widow’s family informed the delegation that details regarding the one-week commemoration would be announced later.
As the football fraternity mourns the loss of Ricky Roy, his legacy will endure through the lasting impact he made on Ghanaian football, and his memory will be cherished by all who were touched by his presence.

Leicester City is on the verge of securing the services of Ghanaian international Abdul Fatawu Issahaku on a permanent basis.
The English club has opted to activate Issahaku’s €17 million buy option following his successful loan spell from Portugal’s Sporting Lisbon during the 2023/24 season.
The 20-year-old forward played a pivotal role in Leicester’s triumphant return to the English Premier League, contributing significantly to their victory in the English Championship.
“We are set to generate significant revenue,” remarked Sporting Lisbon manager Ruben Amorim, as reported by Italian sports journalist Fabrizio Romano. “Our system allows talented players who may not adapt here to move to other clubs, enhancing their value.”
Issahaku has impressed with seven goals and 13 assists for Leicester, earning recognition as the club’s Best Young Player.
