Ghana’s Men’s 4 x 100 Metre Relay Team secured their spot in the 2024 Olympic Games after a stunning victory in Heat 2 at the World Relays held in the Bahamas.
Outpacing competitors from Nigeria and the Dominican Republic, Team Ghana crossed the finish line with an impressive time of 38.29 seconds, marking Ghana’s fastest time of the season thus far.
Comprising Ibrahim Fuseini, Isaac Botsio, Benjamin Azamati, and Joseph Paul Amoah, the Ghanaian quartet not only triumphed but also surpassed their own performance set at the 2023 African Games.
During the 2023 African Games in Accra, Benjamin Azamati, Joseph Paul Amoah, Edwin Gadayi, and Solomon Hammond secured silver with a time of 38.43 seconds.
In this latest feat, three members of Team Ghana demonstrated exceptional speed, each completing their split times in under 10 seconds, solidifying Ghana’s place in the upcoming Olympics in Paris.
Joseph Amoah, anchoring the team, recorded the swiftest split time at 9.12 seconds, closely followed by Isaac Botsio with 9.13 seconds. Despite carrying a hip injury, Benjamin Azamati managed a commendable split time of 9.35 seconds, while Ibrahim Fuseini clocked in at 10.09 seconds.
The journey to Olympic qualification wasn’t without its hurdles. On the first day of the World Relays, Ghana encountered a setback when they dropped the baton, causing them to miss out on qualification. This misfortune followed their second-place finish at the Penn Relays, emphasizing the team’s resilience in overcoming challenges to secure their Olympic berth.

Just two months following their triumphant gold medal victory at the 2023 Africa Games hosted in Ghana, a team of Technical Handlers, led by gold medal-winning Coach Desmond Offei, has embarked on an extensive search for the upcoming cohort of football talent. These emerging stars are tasked with upholding the esteemed legacy of their predecessors who have consistently brought honor to Ghana over the past three years.
Commencing on May 1st, 2024, and extending until June 16th, this initial phase of talent scouting aims to identify promising footballers who will carry forward the mantle of success for Ghana’s national Under-20 team, the Black Satellites.
While celebrating the achievements of the current Black Satellites, the Ghana Football Association is committed to maintaining high-performance standards across national teams. To this end, Coaches Desmond Ofei, Nii Odartey Lamptey, Salifu Fatawu, and Isaac Amoako have been commissioned to scout for new talent to bolster the current U20 squad. This initiative is crucial as several players are poised for promotion to the Black Meteors (National U23), necessitating a replenishment of talent and squad depth.
Scouting activities will encompass matches in both the Division One and Premier Leagues, spanning across the nation. Additionally, three Mini-Tournaments featuring selected players will be held in designated zones: Northern, Middle, and Southern.
By the conclusion of this scouting phase, a cohort of promising talents will undergo further evaluation, laying the groundwork for Ghana’s next generation of Black Satellites. Through this meticulous approach, centered on aligning talents with Ghana’s football philosophy, the foundation for sustained success is being diligently established.

Black Stars deputy coach John Paintsil attended the Ghana Premier League showdown between Asante Kotoko and Legon Cities at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi on Sunday.
His presence at the game was part of an ongoing quest to identify players who possess the attributes required for consideration in the senior men’s national team, the Black Stars.
Accompanying Paintsil was Ghana U20 Head Coach Desmond Ofei, who shared similar objectives of scouting talent for future team development.
Paintsil’s attendance at previous matches, including Kotoko versus Samartex and Kotoko versus Dreams FC, as well as other fixtures across different regions of Ghana, demonstrates the commitment of the Black Stars Technical team, led by Coach Otto Addo, to extensively assess players nationwide.
As preparations heighten for the Black Stars’ 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Mali and the Central African Republic in June, Paintsil’s diligent scouting efforts underscore the team’s dedication to assembling a strong squad capable of achieving success on both the African and global stages once again.

Asante Kotoko coach Prosper Narteh Ogum has commended Enoch Morrison for his remarkable contributions to the team in recent matches.
Despite being initially positioned in an unfamiliar role, Morrison, a former King Faisal player, has excelled under Ogum’s guidance.
Due to a spate of injuries within the team, the technical staff, led by Ogum, had to deploy Morrison as a defensive midfielder—a departure from his usual position.
Morrison showcased his adaptability in matches against Samartex and Legon Cities, both resulting in victories for Kotoko.
Following their 2-0 triumph over Legon Cities, Ogum singled out Morrison for praise, emphasizing his significant role in the team’s success.
“It’s a testament to his talent and our coaching staff’s adaptability. When midfield challenges arose, Morrison volunteered for the role, confident in his abilities. We conducted tactical sessions and fielded him in the Samartex game, where he performed admirably,” Ogum explained.
“We’re providing him with video feedback, and he’s responding positively. One aspect he can improve upon is advancing forward during attacks, rather than remaining solely defensive. This adjustment will bolster our attacking options. He’s truly become a standout player,” Ogum added.
Asante Kotoko secured a convincing 2-0 victory over Legon Cities at the Baba Yara Stadium, further solidifying Morrison’s impact on the team.

Asante Kotoko legend Abdul Razak has highlighted a crucial problem impacting the club’s performance in the ongoing Ghana Premier League season.
After a string of poor results in the second round, the Porcupine Warriors have regained momentum, securing two consecutive victories in the domestic top-flight.
Razak attended Kotoko’s clash against Legon Cities on matchday 29 at the Baba Yara Stadium, where the Ghanaian giants clinched a 2-0 win. Goals from Steven Desse Mukwala and defender Nurudeen Yussif Mohammed secured the victory.
While Razak commended the team’s overall performance, he expressed concern about their inefficiency in front of goal. “Today’s performance was an improvement compared to previous games. It’s been a while since I’ve been to the stadium, and the team’s recent performances were not encouraging. However, based on what I witnessed against Legon Cities, I believe the current performance is satisfactory. The only issue I noticed was their finishing,” he remarked.
Asante Kotoko currently occupies the tenth position on the Ghana Premier League table with 40 points from 29 matches.
