Gordon Frimpong, the manager of the newly crowned National Featherweight Boxing Champion, Stanley Nyantekyi, known as the ‘Ashanti Warrior,’ has outlined ambitious plans for their boxing journey. He expressed gratitude to Nyantekyi and all supporters for making the recent event at SG Mall, backed by the Asantehene in Kumasi, a memorable success.
As CEO of Osibor Promotions and Management Syndicate, Frimpong hinted at their aspirations to conquer Africa, the Commonwealth, and eventually the world. While acknowledging the growing acclaim for Nyantekyi, Frimpong emphasized a measured approach towards their ultimate goal of securing a world title, characterizing Nyantekyi as a rising star in Ghanaian boxing.
Frimpong, a seasoned businessman with over 15 years of involvement in boxing, transitioned from being a founding member of the Ghana Boxing Supporters Union (GHABSU) to establishing Osibor Promotions. Reflecting on his journey, he stressed the importance of support in expanding and enhancing Osibor Boxing, underscoring the passion that propels his efforts to reach the national stage.
In a plea to corporate entities and organizations, Frimpong highlighted the challenges in maintaining championship status and urged support for Osibor Boxing, recognizing the pivotal role of sponsorship in realizing their ambitions. He extended appreciation to various stakeholders in the boxing community, including coaches, gym mates, and the leadership of the Bronx Boxing Gym.
Frimpong also commended the President of the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA), Mr. Abraham Neequaye, and the board for their commitment to fostering quality boxing across regions.
While Osibor Promotions has received some assistance from coaches and matchmakers, Frimpong emphasized the need for substantial sponsorship from corporate Ghana to propel their quest for another world champion, not only for the nation but for the continent as well.

GAA and GES Forge Partnership to Elevate Athletics and Education
The leadership of the Ghana Athletics Association (GAA) recently held discussions with Dr. Eric Nkansah, the head of the Ghana Education Service (GES), to explore collaborative opportunities aimed at advancing athletics in Junior and Senior High Schools, particularly through events like the Inter Co and NISAC Championships.
Following the resounding success of the 13th African Games, which garnered significant interest at the Legon Sports Stadium, the GAA recognizes the widespread enthusiasm for Track & Field. As a result, there’s a concerted effort to expand the sport’s reach from grassroots levels to tertiary institutions.
The involvement of companies in supporting and motivating our athletes would be greatly welcomed, contributing to the overall promotion and development of athletics in Ghana.

The launch of the 2024 edition of the GNPC Ghana Fastest Human Competition is scheduled to take place at the Media Centre of the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday, April 12, 2024.
Mr. Reks Brobby, the creator of this concept now entering its eleventh season, revealed that the refurbished University of Ghana Athletics Track will host the 100 meters final, following regional selections in Tamale, Kumasi, and Cape Coast.
The competition is open to both female and male sprinters across different age categories: under 15, under 18, and seniors over 18.
With the 13th African Games having recently ignited enthusiasm for Track & Field among Ghanaians, Brobby expressed optimism about the high turnout expected at this year’s event.
He extended gratitude to all companies and individuals who have contributed to the success of the project, particularly acknowledging the support of the President of the Republic, Nana Akufo Addo.
The launch ceremony will feature Nana Bediatuo Asante, Secretary to the President, as the special guest, along with the Minister of Youth & Sports, Hon. Mustapha Ussif, serving as the special guest of honor.
Throughout the years, the GFH competition has received support from various companies including GNPC, Adidas, GCB, Wrenco Printing, Sports Equity Lab, Kriate Lync, Moringa King, Pippas Gym, and Global Media Alliance.

The 3rd edition of the Accra Inter-City Homowo Marathon is scheduled to take place on Saturday, August 3, 2024. This marathon is a significant part of the festivities marking the annual Homowo Festival celebrated by the Gas.
Organized by Medivents Consult, this year’s marathon will feature two categories: a 21-kilometer race and a 10-kilometer race. Endorsed by the Ga Traditional Council (GTC), the event is anticipated to draw top athletes from all corners of the country.
The race will kick off at the Accra Sports Stadium and conclude at the Bukom Boxing Arena. Additionally, preceding the marathon will be a two-day Sports Fair, providing a platform for sports-related businesses to network, exchange ideas, and showcase their products and services.
Registration details for the race will be announced during the week to facilitate the participation of interested individuals. The organizers will also unveil the launch date of the race along with its sponsors.
In the previous year’s edition held in 2023, Kooga Atia and Juliana Zakat emerged as the winners of the Accra Inter-City Homowo Marathon.

Dreams FC, a team from the Ghana Premier League, has achieved a remarkable feat in their debut campaign in the CAF Confederation Cup by advancing to the semifinals. They overcame Stade Malien, a team from Mali, in a thrilling encounter.
Despite trailing initially, the MTN FA Cup champions managed to salvage a 1-1 draw in the second leg of the quarterfinals at the Baba Yara Stadium against Stade Malien.
Early on in the match, Dreams FC appeared to have taken the lead, but a decision by VAR kept the scoreline level.
Following a goalless first half, Stade Malien broke the deadlock with a goal from York Diaby in the 60th minute, leveling the aggregate score.
However, Dreams FC responded strongly, equalizing ten minutes later through Sylvester Simba.
Under the guidance of Karim Zito, Dreams FC held their ground, maintaining the 1-1 scoreline and securing a 3-2 aggregate victory, building upon their memorable win in Mali from the previous week.
This historic achievement sees Dreams FC becoming the first Ghanaian team to reach the semifinals of the CAF Confederation Cup since Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko accomplished the feat back in 2005, during the inaugural edition of the competition.
