Nyantekyi Stops âAkufo Addoâ At Boxfext In Kumasi To Claim National Featherweight Title
New boxing sensation, Stanley Nyantekyi of the Bronx Boxing Gym in Accra won the National Featherweight Title Belt on Tuesday, April 2, 2024 at SG Mall in Kumasi when he stopped veteran Emmanuel Quartey, a journeyman known in boxing circles as âAkufo Addoâ.
Nyantekyi also called the Ashanti Warrior started the bout on a good fast note to keep his fans alert and ready for action as he came for business after a late downpour.
The new champion born and bred in Kumasi but decided to come down south to Accra to learn how to box pressured his older opponent with accurate shots to the admiration of his cornermen who expressed joy that the future is bright for their ward.
Quartey decided not to come for round four as he had enjoyed enough punches and was gasping for breath as well as limping.
Mr. Gordon Frimpong, CEO of Osibor Promotions who staged the bout âBoxfestâ thanked the Asantehene Otumfuo Nana Osei Tutu II, the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) for the support as well as officials and medics including media and boxing fans who made the trip to Kumasi.
He promised more interesting bouts in the Garden City in the near future.
President of the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA), Mr. Abraham Neequaye who presented the belt said he loved the atmosphere in Kumasi and hinted that the next boxing league will involve Accra, Ashanti and the northern regions.
In other supporting bouts Elvis Ahorgah aka âSoldierâ defeated Adoku Ghartey as John Zile and Bismark Saah solded out a great show to testify what their coaches have taught them.
Eric Quarm also of the Fit Square Gym also fought Richard Fenyi, while Emmanuel Otoo engaged Sani Yidane Kugley.

Usife Lambo and Aaron Ashiley gave a good account of themselves, same as Robert Bruce and John Power.

Cruiserweight fighter Abubakar Kamoko is determined to secure a spot at the Paris 2024 Olympics by participating in the final qualifiers in Bangkok, Thailand, slated for May.
Expressing confidence in his abilities, Kamoko asserts that he is prepared to compete in the light-heavyweight category to represent Ghana on the Olympic stage.
In an exclusive interview with the Graphic Sports, Kamoko emphasized the urgency of Ghanaian representation at the Olympics, deeming it unacceptable that no Ghanaian boxer has yet qualified.
“I am eager to compete in Bangkok and secure qualification for the Olympics. It’s disheartening that Ghana hasn’t secured any slots, and I’m determined to change that,” he stated.
Addressing concerns about his performance at the African Games, where he fell short of securing gold, Kamoko urged observers not to judge him solely on that outcome, citing health issues that affected his performance.
Despite the setback, Kamoko remains focused on his aspirations, drawing inspiration from his father’s boxing legacy. He acknowledges the silver medal as an accomplishment but aims for Olympic participation to cap off his amateur career before transitioning to the professional circuit.
With dreams of winning gold at the Olympics and subsequently claiming a world title in the light heavyweight division, Kamoko appeals to the Ghana Boxing Federation to consider him for the Olympic qualifiers.
Under the guidance of esteemed trainer Carl Lokko, Kamoko affirms his readiness to compete in national championships or any qualifying events leading up to the Bangkok qualifiers.

Former President of the Ghana Football Association, Kwesi Nyantakyi, has extended an apology to President Akufo-Addo for implicating him in the ‘Number 12’ expose.
Speaking in an interview with Onua TV, Nyantakyi acknowledged that he spoke indiscreetly during his encounter with purported Arabian investors.
“I realize I erred by mentioning President Akufo-Addo and his Vice, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, in that context. I deeply regret my actions and seek their forgiveness,” he expressed.
In 2018, Nyantakyi was ousted from his position by FIFA and CAF following an investigative piece by Anas Aremeyaw Anas.
The ‘Number 12’ expose uncovered rampant corruption within Ghanaian football, capturing Nyantakyi in discussions with potential investors where matters beyond football were broached.
During these exchanges, Nyantakyi advised the investors to offer bribes to the president, vice president, and certain cabinet members to facilitate business dealings in Ghana.
Reflecting on his conduct, Nyantakyi admitted to overstepping boundaries and expressed remorse. “When I met Sheikh Al-Thani, I suggested the necessity of monetary incentives to the President and his vice. It was an error on my part, and I regret making such statements. I hope for the forgiveness of all, including the ministers I referenced.”
Nyantakyi has since transitioned into the political arena as a parliamentary candidate hopeful for the New Patriotic Party in the Ejisu constituency.

Former Ghanaian international Asamoah Gyan asserts that Mohammed Kudus should be the focal point of the Black Stars team, citing the midfielder’s outstanding performances for both club and country.
Gyan emphasizes that Kudus’ contributions warrant structuring the team around him. Since his debut in 2019, Kudus has garnered immense popularity among fans, netting nine goals in 26 appearances for the Black Stars.
Encouraging the national team’s management, Gyan asserts, “It’s clear – Mohammed Kudus.” Reflecting on his own era, Gyan acknowledges the presence of numerous talented players, culminating in his leadership role. However, he believes that Kudus, with his stellar performances, currently stands out.

Bawa Fuseini, the President of Ghana Athletics, emphasizes the importance of watering the tartan tracks at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium at least three times a week following the African Games.
Maintaining the facilities used during the games has raised concerns due to Ghana’s inconsistent track record in facility upkeep.
Fuseini underscores that regular watering of the tracks will extend the lifespan of the Mondo certified surfaces, ensuring their durability for elite competitions.
“It’s essential to water them,” he explained to Joy Sports on Saturday. “This practice maintains the running surface in optimal condition, preserving its freshness and longevity. With proper watering, these tracks can endure for 10 to 15 years. However, without this upkeep, cracks may appear within just three to four years.”
Fuseini urges collaborative efforts with university authorities and the ministry to implement a regimen of watering the tracks at the Legon Stadium at least three times a week, safeguarding their quality and standard for the next decade.
