Stanbic Bank Ghana has extended its support to the Local Organising Committee (LOC) of the African Games – Accra 2023 by presenting a cheque of GHS200,000 to bolster the government’s efforts in orchestrating the Games.
During the presentation ceremony, Mr. Kwamina Asomaning, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Stanbic Bank Ghana, expressed the bank’s delight in collaborating with the LOC to elevate Ghana’s stature through the African Games. He emphasized the alignment of sports values with the bank’s vision, particularly in fostering socio-economic development.
Mr. Asomaning highlighted the significance of supporting sports promotion on the continent, noting that government initiatives required additional assistance to ensure the Games’ success.
In emphasizing Stanbic Bank’s commitment to sports development, Mr. Asomaning cited the bank’s investment in various sporting disciplines such as swimming, tennis, and volleyball. He described the bank’s support for the African Games as an opportunity to diversify its focus and contribute meaningfully to Ghana’s sporting resurgence.
Expressing gratitude for Stanbic Bank’s timely intervention, the Minister of Youth and Sports, speaking on behalf of the LOC and the government, acknowledged the crucial role the support played, particularly in facilitating the payment of per diems to Ghanaian athletes. With over 500 athletes from Team Ghana to support, the minister highlighted the significant impact the contribution would have in ensuring the athletes’ welfare and fostering a conducive environment for achieving success in the competition.

The Ghana Cycling Federation recently honored Emmanuel Tuffuor, also known as ‘Koora,’ with a Certificate of Appreciation for his invaluable support in organizing events at Ablekuma Olebu and Pokuase Road for the 13th African Games. The presentation, overseen by Dr. Kwaku Ofosu Asare, Chairman of the LOC for Accra 2023, highlighted Koora’s dedication and expertise, particularly in ensuring the successful organization of cycling events, a crucial component of the Olympic program.
Acknowledging the challenges faced, Lawyer Saahnon Mohammeed, President of the Ghana Cycling Association, praised the collective efforts that led to a memorable event despite obstacles encountered along the way.
Emmanuel Tuffour, a former athlete and member of the National Sports Authority (NSA) Board and LOC for the 13th African Games, played a pivotal role in supervising and ensuring the smooth operation of the Cycling Association’s activities, from race organization to medal presentations.
Additionally, Elizabeth Alhassan Gyamfi, a promising young journalist, and Mohammed Bashir, Secretary General of the African Cycling Federation, were also recognized for their significant contributions to the success of the cycling competitions at Accra 2023. The citations were presented by Mr. Mohammed Shabaan, General Secretary of the Ghana Cycling Association.
The dedication and hard work of these individuals did not go unnoticed, as both local and international media outlets commended their efforts in advancing the sport of cycling in Ghana.

He has introduced an activation slogan, “Target the podium for gold and take it by force,” rallying the nation behind the Black Princesses’ quest for victory.
The upcoming Women’s Football Final, scheduled for Thursday at 8 pm against Nigeria’s Falconets, reignites the longstanding sporting rivalry between Ghana and Nigeria. Despite Nigeria’s success in various disciplines, they are eager to add football medals to their tally. However, Deen asserts that Ghanaians are determined not to relinquish the football gold, opting instead to seize it forcefully.
According to the CEO of African Origin Travel and Tours, Ghana is mobilizing supporters to storm the Cape Coast Sports Stadium in a bid to claim what rightfully belongs to them.
