In a bid to provide equal opportunities for talents across the 10 football regions, the second phase of screening for the Black Starlets is scheduled to take place this weekend across three designated football zones. The two-day screening exercise is planned for Friday, February 23, and Saturday, February 24, 2024, with the goal of facilitating transportation for U-17 players eligible to participate in the Black Starlets.
The screening will be organized into three zones to streamline logistics. Zone One includes Upper East, Upper West, Northern, and Brong Ahafo regions. Zone Two comprises Ashanti, Western, and Central regions, while Zone Three involves Eastern, Volta, and Greater Accra regions.
Players in Upper East, Upper West, Northern, and Brong Ahafo regions are directed to report to the NOBISCO Park in Tamale for the screening. Zone Two participants are to assemble at Sofoline astro turf in Kumasi, and for Zone Three, the exercise will be held at the All Nations University Park in Koforidua.
Successful candidates from the screening will progress to the Technical Centre at Prampram for the final phase of evaluation. The Black Starlets are gearing up for various competitions, including this year’s WAFU B U-17 Cup of Nations and other international tournaments.

Former Ghanaian football star Asamoah Gyan has been appointed as the lead for the “Youth and Sports” manifesto sub-committee on the Manifesto Committee of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer for the 2024 election, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
Gyan, Ghana’s all-time leading goal scorer, joins a team of twenty-three others tasked with conducting a comprehensive review of the NPP’s 2016 and 2020 manifestos to formulate a practical manifesto for the 2024 elections.
The committee aims to engage various stakeholders and involve sector ministers as advisors in order to develop a forward-looking and pragmatic manifesto that addresses the needs of the Ghanaian population.
Gyan’s appointment follows a cryptic message he shared on his social media platform, expressing the need for sports legends to unite and utilize their influence, networks, and resources to attract investors and make a positive impact on the youth in sports, including football, boxing, and other athletics.
In his role, Gyan is expected to actively communicate the sports-related aspects of Dr. Bawumia’s manifesto once it is completed.
The committee, chaired by the outgoing Majority Leader in parliament, Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu, with Kojo Oppong Nkrumah as Vice-Chairman, Evron Hughes as Secretary, and Prof. Kwaku Appiah Adu and Dr. Isaac Owusu Mensah as Manifesto Committee Coordinators, will thoroughly review the party’s previous manifestos from the 2016 and 2020 elections.

In a commanding display, the Black Satellites, Ghana’s National U20 male team, dominated the field with a resounding 5-0 victory over Division One League side Kings Palace FC. The friendly match, held at the Akotex Park in Akosombo on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, served as a crucial test for the Black Satellites as they gear up for the 13th African Games, Accra 2023 Male football tournament scheduled from March 8-23, 2024.
Despite a goalless first half, Coach Desmond Ofei’s squad came out with determination, with Abdul Aziz of Dreams FC netting the opening goal. Jerry Afriyie, who previously scored a brace in a friendly against Ebusua Dwarfs, continued his impressive form by adding another double to bring the score to 3-0. Further contributions from Abdul Hakeem of Right to Dream FC and Michael Ephson from FC Samartex secured an emphatic 5-0 triumph for the Black Satellites.
The match showcased the team’s readiness and cohesion, following weeks of intensive team building and preparations at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram. The technical team, led by Coach Desmond Ofei, has been actively arranging test games against both topflight and lower-tier sides as the team enters the final stages of preparation for the upcoming competition.
