By admin Former Black Stars midfielder Laryea Kingston has resigned as head coach of Ghana’s National Men’s Under-17 Football Team, the Black Starlets.
Kingston announced his decision to step down following Ghana’s 2-1 loss to Burkina Faso in the Under-17 WAFU Zone B Championship, held at the University of Ghana Stadium in Legon. The loss eliminated Ghana from qualifying for the upcoming Africa Under-17 competition, with Burkina Faso advancing to the finals and securing a spot in the continental event.
During his post-game press conference, Kingston revealed that his decision to resign was made before the tournament began, regardless of its outcome.
“The investment I put in myself as a coach is all because I want to change something in Ghana football. For the past six, seven months, I have given my all and done my part. As a technical person, as a coach, I have done my part,” Kingston stated.
“After we came back from Russia (pre-WAFU tournament), I decided that whether we win or qualify, I’m moving on. So in this case, I’m resigning after this tournament as Under-17 coach. I made that decision already before the tournament started.”
