As anticipation builds ahead of Sunday’s crunch quarter-final clash between Ghana and hosts Egypt at the 2025 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations, Black Satellites defender Aaron Essel has issued a bold statement of intent: “For us, this is a final.”
Speaking at the pre-match press conference at the New Suez Stadium, Essel reflected the calm but determined mood in the Ghanaian camp. With a FIFA U-20 World Cup ticket on the line, the stakes couldn’t be higher.
“The field will decide who wins, and we are determined to make sure it’s Ghana,” he said confidently. “Preparations have gone very well. Everyone is focused and ready to deliver.”
Despite facing a formidable Egyptian side boosted by home support, the Satellites remain unfazed. Essel emphasized that the team’s strength lies in unity and strict adherence to Coach Desmond Ofei’s tactical blueprint.
“There’s no pressure on us,” he continued. “We’ve prepared well and are approaching the game with a strong mentality.”
Ghana, four-time champions at this level, are hungry to reclaim their former dominance in youth football. A win on Sunday would move them a step closer to that goal—and seal qualification for the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup.
