In a landmark moment for Ghanaian beach soccer, Alexander Adjei—affectionately known as the “Goal King” of African sands—has signed with Barcelona Beach Soccer Club in Spain, becoming the first player in Ghana’s beach soccer history to go pro abroad.
Hailing from the vibrant coastal town of Teshie, Adjei’s journey from local beaches to international arenas is one of relentless grit and dazzling talent. The 2-time AFCON Beach Soccer Goal King etched his name into African sports history with 17 goals at the 2015 edition in Seychelles and another 11 goals in the 2024 tournament in Egypt, where Ghana narrowly missed a World Cup berth.
As captain of Sea Sharks Beach Soccer Club and a national team stalwart for the Black Sharks, Adjei has been a cornerstone of Ghana’s domestic league—renowned for his explosive pace, power, and clinical finishing. His move to Spain is being celebrated not just as a personal triumph, but as a groundbreaking moment for the sport in Ghana and Africa as a whole.
Barcelona’s Brazilian coach, Leo Braga, expressed excitement at the signing: “We’ve tracked Alex for a while. His qualities are exceptional, and we believe he’ll add something special to our squad.”
Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, a pioneer of Ghana Beach Soccer, called Adjei “a beacon of hope” for the future of the sport, inspiring young players across the continent to dream bigger.
Overwhelmed with pride, Adjei shared his joy: “It’s a dream come true. I’ve worked hard for this moment, and I’m proud to be carrying the flag of Ghana into the international arena.”
As he prepares for the Spanish Beach Soccer League, Adjei’s story is being celebrated as a powerful symbol of possibility—for beach soccer in Ghana, and for African talent rising onto the global stage.
