Ahead of the highly anticipated Ghana Premier League clash between Berekum Chelsea and Hearts of Oak, Berekum Chelsea’s Public Relations Officer, Isaac Obeng, has revealed that their head coach, Samuel Boadu, has pledged a special bonus to his players if they secure victory against his former team, Hearts of Oak.
The match, set to take place at the Golden City Park, has captured significant attention, with Boadu seeking to avenge his departure from Hearts of Oak two seasons ago due to a disappointing start to their campaign.
According to Obeng, Boadu personally assured the Berekum Chelsea players of this special bonus as added motivation for the encounter against their formidable opponents, Hearts of Oak.
Speaking during an interview with Nhyira FM in Kumasi, Obeng described the upcoming match as a “revenge game” for Boadu.
Boadu’s tenure at Hearts of Oak was distinguished by notable success and managerial accolades. During his time with the Phobians, the team secured an impressive five trophies in less than two years, including the prestigious Ghana Premier League title in the 2020/2021 season, consecutive FA Cup victories, as well as triumphs in the Ghana Super Cup and the President’s Cup.

The organisers of the Accra Inter-City Homowo Marathon have revealed the registration code for the upcoming 2024 edition of the race.
This announcement follows the renewal of the partnership between the organisers, Medivents Consult, and TXT Ghana Limited.
According to a statement from Medivents Consult, signed by Mr. Michael Atitsogbui, the Events Coordinator, participants can register for the event by dialing 38021#.
The decision to utilize a short code for registration aims to streamline the process and enhance convenience for participants.
Additionally, participants have the option to register on the race website: www.accraintercitymarathon.com.
Registration fees are set at GHC70.00 for the 21-kilometer category and GHC50.00 for both the 5-kilometer and 10-kilometer categories.
Scheduled for Saturday, August 3, the third edition of the Accra Inter-City Homowo Marathon will coincide with the annual homowo festival.
The race will kick off at the Accra Sports Stadium and conclude at the Bukom Boxing Arena, with over 2000 athletes expected to participate.
This event is organized by Medivents Consult in collaboration with the Ga Traditional Council (GTC).

Ben Nunoo Mensah, President of Ghana’s Olympic Committee (GOC), has underscored the critical necessity of enhanced resources to adequately prepare athletes for international competitions, including the Olympics.
Mensah emphasized that while there is a strong desire to qualify for tournaments and clinch medals, Ghana has not allocated the requisite resources to achieve these aspirations.
He pointed out that compared to other nations, Ghana has failed to demonstrate the same level of commitment and investment in preparing its athletes for success on the global stage.
Speaking on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM’s Total Sports Review, Mensah lamented the current state of sports in Ghana, advocating for collaborative efforts to address the resource gap and improve outcomes.
He expressed disappointment over Ghana’s failure to qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympics, particularly noting that despite financial support from the GOC, both male and female teams fell short of qualification.
Mensah stressed that the fundamental issue plaguing Ghanaian sports is the lack of investment. He emphasized that without adequate investment, the desired results will remain elusive.
He criticized the inadequate budget allocated for sports in Ghana, highlighting the substantial investment other countries make in sports as a crucial tool for national branding and attracting tourism.
Mensah highlighted the pivotal role of sports in promoting Ghana globally, citing examples of renowned athletes like Azumah Nelson, DK Poison, and Takyi, who have brought honor to the nation.
He cautioned against neglecting other sports in favor of high-profile teams like the Black Stars, emphasizing the importance of equitable support across all sporting disciplines.
Mensah warned that without a strategic shift in prioritizing sports development and resource allocation, Ghana’s sporting industry will continue to deteriorate, undermining the nation’s potential for success on the international stage.

Ghanaian goalkeeper Lawrence Ati-Zigi has inked a two-year contract extension with Swiss Super League outfit, St. Gallen.
The 27-year-old’s previous deal with the Espens was due to conclude in the summer of 2025.
“We are delighted to secure Lawrence’s services for the long haul,” the club stated in a release.
“He’s a pivotal player who not only impresses on the field but also off it, showcasing professionalism, composure, and leadership qualities.
“During negotiations, it was evident that both parties were keen on an extension. We eagerly anticipate Lawrence’s continued dedication.”
The Black Stars shot-stopper is now entering his fifth season with St. Gallen after joining from Sochaux at the commencement of the 2019/20 campaign.
This season, he has participated in 32 league matches, registering five clean sheets while conceding 44 goals.
Over his five-year tenure at St. Gallen, Lawrence Ati-Zigi has amassed 159 appearances across all competitions, conceding 237 goals and preserving 32 clean sheets.
