Ghanaian midfielder Michael Baidoo is on the cusp of a new adventure in the Middle East, just six months after signing with English Championship side Plymouth Argyle.
Per reports from Qatari outlet Akoora, the 26-year-old is close to sealing a deal with Qatar Stars League runners-up Umm Salal SC. Baidoo’s time in England has been brief and underwhelming, having joined Plymouth in January 2025 from Swedish outfit IF Elfsborg in a deal worth between €1.7 and €1.8 million — reportedly a record fee for the Swedish club.
Despite high expectations, Baidoo managed only 13 appearances for the Pilgrims, struggling to lock down a regular starting role. Plymouth’s relegation to League One at the end of the 2024/25 season has further accelerated the midfielder’s departure plans.
The prospective move to Umm Salal offers Baidoo a fresh start in a competitive and financially rewarding league, with the promise of more consistent minutes and a stable platform to reignite his career. If completed, this transfer will add another chapter to Baidoo’s football journey, which has already taken him across Norway, Sweden, and England.
